Green Sox win Second Straight, Mercy Rule the Monarchs 15-5
The Boulder Green Sox (2-1) were clutch all game long. Every time a big hit, a perfect pitch or a huge play was needed, one was delivered on cue. Matt Jensen (2-1) battled big time over 6 innings, striking out 11 and setting down all three twice and none only once. In the second, the Green Sox were already up 5 when the Monarchs scored their first run and had the corners filled with nobody out. Jensen stuffed the rally with three K's. The offense, while still struggling in terms of consistency, made up for any deficiencies by refusing to make a third out. Six of the first 8 runs plated by the Sox were served up with two outs. In total, 10 of the Green Sox 15 runs were driven in with two down.
The Monarchs, trailing 8-1 in the bottom of the fourth, took advantage of a walk, an error and a misplay and scored 4 and were threatening. With a runner on first and one out, Jensen made a nice play on a tricky hop to start a 1-6-3 double play to quell the uprising. The offense immediately replaced all four runs in the top of the fifth, building the lead to 12-5. Jensen didn't allow another run and, after a leadoff single, he struck the side out in the sixth, his final inning. Gary Mess came on in the seventh and induced three infield pop ups to preserve the mercy. The offense had scored three in the top of the frame... all with two outs, of course.
James Beffell (2B, RBI) and Matt Hagen (2 2B, 2 RBI, 3 R) each pounded out three hits; Jensen (2 RBI, R) and Matt Zacher (RBI,R) had two. Chris Wood (SF,SB) and Scott Mess (3R, 2 SB) had 2 RBI each. And Alex Rodriguez was a brick wall behind the plate, framing pitches and calling a strong game.
A complete team effort as all 11 teammate contributed to a solid victory! Next up are the Flying Squirrels at Denver East 4pm Sunday April 28th. Go Green Sox!

Green Sox down the Crush
The Boulder Green Sox defeated the Crush 12-4 at Green Mountain today. Starting pitcher Matt Jensen went 5 strong for the win. Before the game, he grabbed a bat from the fence and asked. "Who's exo is this?" I told him it was Jerry Brown 's bat, his Louisville Slugger TPX. "There are a ton of doubles in that bat," referring to Jerry's uncanny knack of finding two-baggers. "F@*# that," he replied. "I'm taking it deep..."
Late in the game, when he was rounding third after destroying one to deep center field, I greeted him with a handshake. "That was for Jerry," he said.
Always with us, brother! Go Green Sox
Matt Hagen was 4 for 5 with a homer and 3 RBI, Gary Mess was 3 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs and Matt Zacher had two hits and drove in two
